SAISD Celebrates Back To School with San Angelo READS! Giveaway for Elementary Students

San Angelo Reads Giveaway

San Angelo ISD is eagerly awaiting the first day of the 2022-2023 school year this Wednesday, August 17, 2022. To celebrate, we are giving some of our youngest learners the chance to score their very own copy of the book “First Day Jitters” by Julie Danneberg through our San Angelo READS! community-wide literacy initiative. Today, we shared a video read aloud of the book for families to enjoy together, read by SAISD Elementary Director of Curriculum and Instruction Ms. Rikke Black.

The book is a great read for families to do together with students at the beginning of the school year. Here’s one description from the back cover: “From the moment she awakens on the fateful day to the moment she steps into the classroom, Sarah Hartwell imagines the worst…all of which leads to a nifty surprise ending that is a delight.”

We have one copy for a giveaway for each SAISD elementary school. A recipient will be randomly selected from entries per elementary school.

In addition to the “First Day Jitters” book, the randomly selected student will also receive a copy of the book “Pig the Star” by Aaron Blabey compliments of The United Way of the Concho Valley, a package of crayons, a children’s San Angelo READS! tshirt, an “I love reading” drawstring bag and rubber bracelet, and some other goodies.

To participate:

  1. Like the post about the giveaway on the SAISD Facebook page
  2. Complete the Book Giveaway Submission form here no later than Tuesday, August 16th at 2pm.
  3. 17 randomly-selected recipients of the book giveaway and goodies will be announced Tuesday, August 16th at 4pm via our Facebook page, and will also be notified by the contact information provided in the submission.

*Note, families can also request to participate as an alternative to completing the form by emailing communications@saisd.org no later than Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 2pm and including the following information: sharing a hope or dream for your student for the school year, the name of the parent/guardian submitting the information and a contact phone number and email, the student name and school.

SAISD thanks all supporters of the San Angelo READS! community-wide literacy initiative for making this giveaway possible. We remind families we have a library of online read aloud available at our website at www.saisd.org/district/san-angelo-reads/videos and on the San Angelo READS! youTube channel here.

San Angelo READS!

The San Angelo Reads! community-wide literacy initiative was founded by the District in 2020 to promote and encourage reading and the SAISD future-ready learner profile attributes among SAISD students and the greater San Angelo community. The goal of the literacy initiative is to increase awareness of the importance of literacy and to inspire a love for reading. This exciting initiative is driven by statistics which show how vitally important literacy is to providing all students with the opportunities to succeed at a young age. Children and teenagers who read for pleasure on a daily or weekly basis score better on reading and writing tests than infrequent or non-readers.

SAISD kicked off San Angelo READS! on December 9, 2020 with the first annual San Angelo Reads! Day, a day when literacy was celebrated at every SAISD elementary campus with literacy fun like read-ins, unveiling book vending machines and a gift of a book to all SAISD 3rd graders compliments of the San Angelo Area Foundation. SAISD is focused on building literacy skills that create students who are prepared for future successes, inside and outside the classroom and beyond their time in our hallways.
